		<description>I think that electing judges on merit is a good idea.  Who gets to determine what merit is?  The third definition of merit from Dictionary.com states:  
&quot;3.	merits, the inherent rights and wrongs of a matter, as a lawsuit, unobscured by procedural details, technicalities, personal feelings, etc.: The case will be decided on its merits alone.&quot;  In the morally relativistic society that we have become thanks to the ACLU&#039;s successful campaign against the 10 commandments; there are less and less rigid rights and wrongs - just shades of gray.  This is the very crux of the battle between conservatives and liberals.  The only way that electing judges on merit can be advocated is first to restore a judicial frame of reference.  It&#039;s unlikely that short a catastrophic correction in public opinion that this will happen any time soon.</description>
